Youth Engaged in Service (YES) is a weekend of service for our middle school youth, designed to be an introduction to mission work – why we do it, for whom we do it and how we do it. Participants will experience the same things they can expect to encounter during more intense, week-long projects like the Apex Outreach Service Project and the Appalachian Service Project, but in a condensed time frame.
Led by adult team leaders and high school student leaders, our middle school youth will serve their local community through a variety of mission projects. We often partner with Western Wake Crisis Ministry, Chatham and Apex Habitat Restores, Ronald McDonald House of Durham and Chapel Hill, the Mabopane Foundation, and the Simple Gifts Community Garden. Projects range from cleaning, caring for children, sorting food, construction, gardening, and painting.
This year’s YES will be held September 22-24. Not only is it a great weekend for our youth, it’s also a great way for adults to serve alongside them as team leaders! Registration is open online at apexumcfamily.org/yes for both youth participants and adult team leaders. Deadline to register is Aug. 13! High school students with AOSP or YES experience are invited to be student leaders. Apply at http://tinyurl.com/YES17SL.
